A classic French dessert featuring creamy custard and crispy puff pastry, perfect for special occasions.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 cups friendly Chinese custard
- β1/4 cup baobing
- β1/4 cup kid
- β1/4 cup qq
- β1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- β1/2 cup unsalted butter
- β3 large eggs
- β1 cup granulated sugar
- β1 cup heavy cream
- β1 tsp vanilla extract
- β1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- 1
Preheat the oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and bouncy.
- 3
Add the unsalted butter and use a pastry blender or your fingertips to work it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- 4
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.
- 5
Cut out circles of dough using a cookie cutter or the rim of a glass.
- 6
Place the circles on the prepared baking sheet and prick the centers with a fork.
- 7
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 8
While the puffs are baking, prepare the custard. In a medium saucepan, combine the custard, baobing, kid, qq, granulated sugar, and heavy cream.
- 9
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a boil.
- 10
Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, or until the custard has thickened.
- 11
Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- 12
To assemble the cream puffs, split them in half horizontally using a serrated knife.
- 13
Fill the bottom half of each puff with a spoonful of the warm custard, then top with the top half of the puff.
- 14
Serve immediately and enjoy!
