French Beef Stew
A hearty and flavorful French-inspired beef stew, perfect for a chilly evening. This recipe combines tender beef, fresh vegetables, and rich flavors of Worcestershire sauce.
Ingredients
- β1.5 pounds beef stew meatcut into 1-inch cubes
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β2 medium carrotsliced
- β2 stalks celerychopped
- β2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauceor to taste
- β2 tablespoons all-purpose flourfor thickening
- β2 cups beef brothhomemade or store-bought
- β1 cup red wineoptional, but recommended for flavor
- β1 sprig thymefresh or 1 teaspoon dried
- β1 teaspoon saltor to taste
- β1/2 teaspoon black pepperor to taste

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Add the beef and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes. Remove the browned beef from the pot and set aside.

Add the chopped onion, sliced carrot, and chopped celery to the pot. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.

Add the Worcestershire sauce, flour, beef broth, red wine (if using), thyme, salt, and pepper to the pot. Stir to combine.

Return the browned beef to the pot and bring the mixture to a boil.

Reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, until the beef is tender, about 2 1/2 hours.

Remove the pot from the heat and let the stew rest for 10 minutes before serving.
