Canadian Tourtiere Stew
A hearty German-inspired stew featuring Canadian tourtiere meat, served with a side of crispy poutine. Perfect for cold winter nights.
Ingredients
- β1 lb Tourtiere meat
- β1 medium Onion
- β1 tsp Caraway seeds
- β1 tsp Allspice
- βto taste Salt
- βto taste Black pepper
- β2 cups Beef broth
- β1 bag Poutine fries
- β1/2 cup Grated cheddar cheese
- β1 cup, shredded Ultra cheese

Heat oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.

Add the tourtiere meat and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.

Add the onion, caraway seeds, and allspice to the pot and cook until the onion is softened.

Add the beef broth to the pot and bring to a boil.

Reduce the heat to low and simmer the stew for 30 minutes.

While the stew is cooking, prepare the poutine fries according to package instructions.

To assemble the poutine, place a portion of fries in a bowl, top with a spoonful of the stew, and sprinkle with grated cheddar cheese and shredded ultra cheese.

Note: You can also add some crispy bacon bits on top of the poutine for extra flavor.

You can also make this dish in a slow cooker: Brown the tourtiere meat and cook the onion in a skillet, then transfer everything to the slow cooker with the beef broth and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
