Turkish-Style Doner Kebab
A traditional Turkish dish made with thinly sliced lamb, served in a crispy sesame-topped bun.
Ingredients
- β500g LambUse a combination of leg and shoulder for best results
- β4 Turkish BreadAlso known as Simit, use a crusty bread with sesame seeds
- β1 head LettuceUse fresh lettuce leaves for garnish
- β2 TomatoUse ripe tomatoes for best flavor
- β1 Red OnionUse thinly sliced red onion for added flavor
- β1/4 cup MayonnaiseUse a neutral-tasting mayonnaise for best results
- β3 cloves GarlicUse fresh garlic for best flavor
- β1 tsp PaprikaUse sweet paprika for added flavor
- βto taste SaltUse coarse salt for best results
- βto taste Black PepperUse freshly ground black pepper for best flavor

Preheat the oven to 200Β°C (400Β°F).

Slice the lamb into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

In a large bowl, mix together the lamb, garlic, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

Place the lamb mixture onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the lamb is cooked through.

While the lamb is cooking, toast the Turkish bread by grilling it for a few minutes on each side.

Assemble the kebabs by placing a few slices of the lamb onto each bread bun.

Top each kebab with a lettuce leaf, a tomato slice, a few slices of red onion, and a dollop of mayonnaise.

Note: You can also cook the lamb on a grill or in a skillet on the stovetop if preferred.
