Crispy Wontons with Sweet Chili Sauce
A classic Chinese appetizer consisting of crispy wontons served with a sweet and spicy chili sauce. Perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- β1 package Wonton wrappers (10-12 count)available at most Asian grocery stores
- β1/2 cup Vegetable oilfor frying
- β1/2 pound Shrimppeeled and deveined
- β1/2 cup Carrotsgrated
- β1/4 cup Green onionschopped
- β2 tablespoons Soy saucefor seasoning
- β1 tablespoon Oyster sauceoptional
- β1 teaspoon Sesame oilfor seasoning

Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat.

When the oil is hot, add the wonton wrappers and fry until crispy and golden brown.

Remove the wontons from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

In a separate pan, heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil over medium heat.

Add the grated carrots and cook until they are tender.

Add the chopped green onions and cook for another minute.

In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce and oyster sauce (if using).

Add the soy sauce mixture to the pan with the carrots and green onions.

Add the fried wontons to the pan and toss to coat with the sauce.

Serve the wontons hot with additional sweet chili sauce for dipping (recipe below).

To make the sweet chili sauce, combine 1/2 cup of ketchup, 1/4 cup of honey, and 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar in a small bowl.

Heat the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens slightly.
