Classic British Beef Stew
A hearty, comforting stew originating from the UK, made with tender beef and root vegetables.
Ingredients
- β1 pound beef stewing beef
- β2 medium carrots
- β2 large potatoes
- β1 large onion
- β3 cloves garlic
- β2 cups beef broth
- β1 cup red wine
- β2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- β1 teaspoon thyme
- β1 teaspoon salt

Preheat the oven to 300Β°F (150Β°C).

Season the beef with salt and thyme.

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Sear the beef until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes. Remove the beef from the pot and set aside.

Add the onion and garlic to the pot and cook until the onion is softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the carrots and potatoes to the pot and cook for 5 minutes.

Add the beef broth and red wine to the pot, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.

Return the beef to the pot and bring to a boil.

Cover the pot with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven.

Braise the stew for 2 1/2 hours, or until the beef is tender.

Remove the pot from the oven and stir in the flour to thicken the stew.
