Classic German Sausage Stew
A hearty, comforting stew filled with the flavors of Germany. Perfect for a chilly evening.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Lovely German Sausageany type of German sausage, such as knockwurst or bratwurst
- β2 cups, cubed Dense German Breadsuch as pumpernickel or dark rye
- β1 medium Onionchopped
- β2 medium Carrotpeeled and chopped
- β2 large Potatopeeled and cubed
- β1 can (14.5 oz) Tomatodiced
- β2 cups Beef brothlow-sodium
- β1 cup Beeroptional
- βto taste Salt
- βto taste Black pepper
Instructions

Brown the sausage in a large pot over medium-high heat, about 5 minutes.

Remove the sausage from the pot and set aside.

Reduce heat to medium and add the chopped onion to the pot. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the chopped carrot and potato to the pot and cook for 5 more minutes.

Add the diced tomato, beef broth, and beer (if using) to the pot. Stir to combine.

Return the sausage to the pot and bring the mixture to a simmer.

Reduce heat to low and let the stew cook, covered, for 20-25 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.

Season the stew with salt and pepper to taste.
