Uruguayan Beef Empanadas
A traditional Uruguayan dish, these empanadas are filled with seasoned ground beef and fried to a crispy perfection.
Ingredients
- β1 lb Ground Beef80/20 lean to fat ratio
- β1 medium Onionchopped
- β3 cloves Garlicminced
- βto taste Salt
- βto taste Black Pepper
- β2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauceoptional
- β1 Eggfor egg wash
- β2 cups All-Purpose Flourfor empanada dough
- βfor frying Vegetable Oil

Preheat the oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent.

Season the beef mixture with salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce (if using).

Roll out the empanada dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.

Cut out circles of dough using a cookie cutter or the rim of a glass.

Place a tablespoon or two of the beef mixture onto the center of each dough circle.

Fold the dough in half over the filling and press the edges together to seal the empanada.

Brush the tops of the empanadas with the beaten egg for a golden glaze.

Fry the empanadas in hot oil until golden brown, then place them on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for an additional 10-15 minutes.
