Brazilian Mussel Tagine
A flavorful and comforting seafood stew originating from Brazil, made with mussels, citrus, and aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- β1 pound mussels scrubbed and debearded
- β1/2 cup citrusy orange juicefreshly squeezed
- β2 tablespoons olive oil
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β2 cloves garlicminced
- β1 teaspoon cuminground
- β1/2 teaspoon paprikasmoked
- β1/2 teaspoon salt
- β1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- β1/4 teaspoon chili flakes
- β1/4 cup fresh cilantrochopped

Heat the olive oil in a large clay or ceramic tagine over medium heat.

Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.

Add the cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, and chili flakes. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Add the mussels, orange juice, and chopped cilantro. Stir to combine.

Cover the tagine and cook for 5-7 minutes, until the mussels are opened.

Discard any mussels that have not opened.
