Harees with Eastern Flair
A traditional Middle Eastern dish made with wheat and harees, flavored with a hint of zesty spices.
Ingredients
- β1 cup harees
- β2 cups wheat
- β4 cups water
- β2 teaspoons zesty spice blend
- β2 tablespoons olive oil
- β1 medium, finely chopped onion
- β3 cloves, minced garlic
- βto taste salt
- βto taste black pepper
Instructions

Rinse the harees in a fine mesh strainer and soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Drain and rinse the harees, then transfer it to a large pot.

Add the wheat, water, zesty spice blend, olive oil, onion, garlic, salt, and black pepper to the pot.

Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes.

Check the harees for tenderness by inserting a fork or knife; if it's still firm, continue to cook for another 10-15 minutes.

Once the harees is tender, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly.

Serve the harees warm, garnished with chopped fresh herbs if desired.
