Stewed Chickpeas in a Chinese Zesty Sauce
A fusion dish combining the flavors of Chinese cuisine with the comfort of a hearty stew. The zesty sauce brings a tangy kick to the rich flavors of the chickpeas.
Ingredients
- β1 can (14.5 oz) chickpeasdrained and rinsed
- β1/4 cup zesty saucestore-bought or homemade
- β2 tsp ethiopian stew spicesor 1 tsp ground cumin and 1 tsp smoked paprika
- β2 tbsp vegetable oil
- β1-inch piece gingergrated
- β2 cloves garlicminced
- β2 tbsp soy sauce
- β1 tsp brown sugar
- β1 tsp rice vinegar
- β1/4 cup green onionschopped

Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

Add the grated ginger and minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Stir in the Ethiopian stew spices and cook for 1 minute.

Add the chickpeas, zesty sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, and rice vinegar. Stir to combine.
