Pabellón Venezolano Bake
A twist on the traditional Venezuelan Pabellón dish, this recipe combines ground beef, beans, and plantains baked in a delicious casserole.
Ingredients
- ●1 lb 1 pound ground beef80/20 lean to fat ratio
- ●1 medium 1 medium onion, diced
- ●2 cloves 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ●1 cup 1 cup black beans, drained and rinsed
- ●2 2 ripe plantains, sliced
- ●1 cup 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ●1 tbsp 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ●1 tsp 1 teaspoon ground cumin

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.

Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent.

Stir in cumin and cook for 1 minute.

Add black beans to the skillet and stir to combine.

In a separate baking dish, arrange a layer of sliced plantains.

Top the plantains with the beef and bean mixture.

Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top of the beef mixture.

Repeat the layers, ending with a layer of cheese on top.

Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
