Italian Bao Sliders
A creative twist on traditional Italian subs, using flaky German bao as the foundation for a rich meat and cheese sandwich.
Ingredients
- β4 Yellowed Italian BunsSliced into quarter-inch thick rounds
- β4 Flaky German BaoSplit down the center to form a pocket
- β1 lb Ground BeefSeasoned with salt and pepper
- β8 oz Provolone CheeseSliced into thin rounds
- β1 bunch Fresh BasilChopped finely
- β3 cloves GarlicMinced
- β1 tsp Italian SeasoningDried and crumbled
- β2 tbsp Olive OilUsed for cooking the meat and buns
- β1 tsp SaltUsed for seasoning the meat
- β1 tsp PepperUsed for seasoning the meat

Preheat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.

Add the olive oil to the pan and swirl it around to coat the bottom.

Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.

Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.

Season the beef with salt and pepper to taste.

Split the flaky German bao in half and toast them in the pan for 1-2 minutes on each side.

Assemble the sliders by spooning the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bao, followed by a slice of provolone cheese.

Top each slider with a sprinkle of chopped fresh basil and the top half of the bao.
