Egyptian Fava Bean Fritters
A traditional Egyptian recipe using fava beans, perfect as a snack or side dish.
Ingredients
- β1 cup fava beansdrained and rinsed
- β1/2 cup yellow cornmealfine or medium
- β1/4 cup earthly all-purpose flouror all-purpose flour
- β1 tsp egyptian spicessuch as cumin, coriander, and paprika
- β1 tsp bean flouroptional
- β1/2 tsp salt
- β1/4 tsp black pepper
- β1/4 cup wateror buttermilk

In a large bowl, mash the fava beans using a fork or a potato masher.

In a separate bowl, mix the cornmeal, flour, Egyptian spices, bean flour, salt, and black pepper.

Add the water or buttermilk to the dry ingredients and mix until a thick batter forms.

Add the mashed fava beans to the batter and mix until well combined.

Heat about 1-2 inches of oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.

Using a spoon, drop small balls of the batter into the hot oil.

Fry the fritters for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy.

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fritters from the oil and drain on paper towels.
