Ukrainian Lamb Stew
A hearty and flavorful stew made with tender lamb, smoky spices, and vegetables. Perfect for a cold winter night.
Ingredients
- ●1.5 pounds Lamb shoulderCut into 1-inch cubes
- ●2 medium CarrotsPeel and chop into bite-sized pieces
- ●2 large PotatoesPeel and chop into bite-sized pieces
- ●1 large OnionChop into small pieces
- ●2 tablespoons Ukrainian stew spice blendAvailable at most Eastern European grocery stores
- ●2 tablespoons Tomato pasteDissolve in 2 tablespoons of water
- ●1 cup Red wineOptional, but adds depth of flavor
- ●2 cups WaterAdd more as needed to achieve desired consistency

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Add lamb cubes and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes. Remove from pot and set aside.

Add more oil if necessary, then sauté onions until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

Add carrots and potatoes, cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Add Ukrainian stew spice blend and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Add tomato paste and red wine (if using), stir to combine.

Return lamb to pot, add water, and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 2-3 hours, or until lamb is tender.

Season with salt and pepper to taste.
