Tunisian Chicken Tagine
A flavorful and aromatic North African dish inspired by Indian spices. Marinated chicken cooked in a rich and spicy tomato-based sauce.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighscut into 2-inch pieces
- β2 tablespoons olive oilfor cooking
- β2 medium onionchopped
- β4 cloves garlicminced
- β2-inch piece gingergrated
- β1 teaspoon cuminground
- β1 teaspoon corianderground
- β1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepperoptional
- β1 teaspoon saltor to taste
- β1 teaspoon black pepperor to taste
- β2 cups chicken brothhomemade or store-bought
- β2 teaspoons chicken tagine spice blendor a mix of cumin, coriander, cinnamon, and allspice
Instructions

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high. Add chicken and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.

Remove chicken and set aside. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add garlic, ginger, cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1 minute.

Stir in chicken broth and bring to a boil.

Return chicken to the pot, cover, and transfer to the oven.

Bake at 300Β°F (150Β°C) for 25-30 minutes or until chicken is cooked through.

Stir in chicken tagine spice blend and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Serve hot over wholesome rice or with tunisian flatbread.
