Harees with Middle Eastern Twist
A traditional Middle Eastern dish with a unique twist, perfect for a hearty meal. Harees is a slow-cooked wheat porridge typically served with meat.
Ingredients
- β1 cup wheatpreferably cracked wheat
- β4 cups wateradjust to achieve desired consistency
- β2 tsp Middle Eastern spicesa mix of cumin, coriander, cinnamon
- β1 medium oniondiced
- β3 cloves garlicminced

Rinse the wheat and soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Drain and rinse the wheat again, then place it in a large pot with 4 cups of water.

Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 1 hour, or until the wheat is tender.

Add the Middle Eastern spices, onion, and garlic to the pot and continue to simmer for another 30 minutes.

Use a fork to mash some of the wheat against the side of the pot to thicken the harees.

Season with salt to taste.
