Croatian Pork Stew
A hearty and flavorful stew made with tender Croatian pork, perfect for a cold winter's night.
Ingredients
- β1.5 kg Croatian Pork ShoulderLook for pork shoulder with a thick layer of fat
- β2 medium Onion
- β3 cloves Garlic
- β4 medium Carrots
- β3 large Potatoes
- β1 cup MushroomsButton or cremini work well
- β1 cup Red Wine
- β2 cups Chicken Broth
- β2 tbsp Tomato Paste
- β1 tsp Paprika
- β1 tsp Salt
- β1/2 tsp Black Pepper

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Sear the pork shoulder until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.

Remove the pork and set aside.

Add the onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Add the carrots and potatoes and cook for 5 minutes.

Add the mushrooms and cook until they release their liquid and start to brown.

Add the red wine, chicken broth, tomato paste, paprika, salt, and pepper.

Return the pork to the pot and bring to a boil.

Cover the pot and transfer to the oven.

Braise the stew for 2.5 hours, or until the pork is tender and falls apart easily.
