German Apple Strudel
A classic German dessert made with sweet apples, crunchy pastry, and a hint of spice.
Ingredients
- ●3-4 sweet applesGranny Smith or other tart variety
- ●1 sheet flaky pastryhomemade or store-bought
- ●2 tbsp crunchy sugarfor topping
- ●2 tbsp date syrupoptional
- ●1 tsp italian vanilla extractfor flavor

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

Peel, core, and slice the sweet apples. Set aside.

Roll out the flaky pastry to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.

In a bowl, mix together the sliced apples, crunchy sugar, and date syrup (if using).

Place the apple mixture along the center of the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border on either side.

Brush the edges of the pastry with a little water.

Fold the pastry over the apple mixture, pressing the edges to seal.

Brush the top of the strudel with a little milk or beaten egg for a golden glaze.

Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
