Smoked Chicken Tagine
A traditional North African-inspired dish with smoky chicken, served in a Thai-style coconut milk sauce.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds Boneless, skinless chicken thighsCut into 2-inch pieces
- β2 teaspoons Smoked paprikaCan substitute with regular paprika
- β1 can (14 oz) Coconut milkFull-fat or low-fat, whichever you prefer
- β2 tablespoons Fish sauceCan substitute with soy sauce or tamari
- β1 tablespoon Brown sugarAdjust to taste
- β2 inches GingerGrated or sliced, whichever you prefer
- β3 cloves GarlicMinced or crushed, whichever you prefer
- β1 teaspoon SaltAdjust to taste
- β1/4 teaspoon Black pepperAdjust to taste
- β1/4 cup Fresh cilantroChopped, for garnish

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven or heavy pot over medium-high heat.

Add chicken and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove from pot and set aside.

Reduce heat to medium and add smoked paprika. Cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute.

Add coconut milk, fish sauce, brown sugar, ginger, garlic, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

Return chicken to pot and bring to a simmer.

Reduce heat to low and cook, covered, until chicken is cooked through and sauce has thickened, about 20-25 minutes.

Stir in fresh cilantro and serve hot.

Garnish with additional cilantro, if desired.

Serve over rice or noodles, if desired.
