Pan-Seared Tofu with Japanese Stir-Fry Sauce
A French-inspired dish featuring crispy tofu and a sweet, spicy stir-fry sauce. This recipe is perfect for a quick weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- β1 block (14 oz) tofudrained and cut into 1-inch cubes
- β1 tsp spicyuse a French hot sauce like harissa
- β1 cup juicyuse a mixture of bell peppers and onions
- β2 tbsp japaneseuse soy sauce and sake or mirin
- β1 tsp sickuse a teaspoon of honey
- β1 cup fryuse a neutral oil like canola or grapeseed
- β1 tsp stiruse a small amount of cornstarch to thicken

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Add the tofu and cook until golden brown on all sides, about 3-4 minutes.

Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.

Add the sliced bell peppers and onions to the skillet and cook until tender, about 3-4 minutes.

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sake or mirin, and honey.

Pour the sauce over the vegetables and stir to combine.

Return the tofu to the skillet and toss to coat with the sauce.

Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until the tofu is coated and the sauce is bubbly.
