Japanese Curry Oxtail Stew
A hearty and comforting Japanese-inspired stew made with oxtail and served with steamed rice.
Ingredients
- ●1.5 lbs oxtail
- ●1 medium onion
- ●3 cloves garlic
- ●2 tbsp curry powderJapanese-style curry powder
- ●1 tsp roasted curry flakes
- ●1 tsp sugar
- ●2 tbsp soy sauce
- ●1/4 cup sakeJapanese rice wine
- ●2 cups water

Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C).

Season the oxtail with salt and pepper.

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Sear the oxtail until browned on all sides.

Remove the oxtail from the pot and set aside.

Reduce heat to medium and sauté the onion and garlic until softened.

Add the curry powder and roasted curry flakes and cook for 1 minute.

Add the sugar, soy sauce, sake, and water to the pot.

Return the oxtail to the pot and cover with a lid.

Transfer the pot to the preheated oven and braise for 2 1/2 hours.

Remove the pot from the oven and let cool slightly.

Strain the stew through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean pot.
