Pastel de Nata
A traditional Portuguese custard tart, rich in flavor and texture. Made with flaky pastry, creamy custard, and a touch of cinnamon.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- β1/2 cup, cold unsalted butter
- β1/2 cup water
- β4 large eggs
- β1/2 cup granulated sugar
- β cinnamonground, to taste
- β1 cup unsalted milk
- β1 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat the oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C).

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pastry dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.

Transfer the dough to a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom.

Trim the edges and press the dough into the corners of the pan.

Prick the bottom of the pastry with a fork to prevent it from bubbling up during baking.

Line the pastry with parchment paper and fill with pie weights.

Bake for 15 minutes, then remove the parchment paper and pie weights.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.

Pour the egg mixture into the baked pastry shell.

Return the tart to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set and the pastry is golden brown.

Remove the tart from the oven and sprinkle with cinnamon.
