Hearty French Lentil Gratin
A rich and flavorful French-inspired gratin made with tender lentils, topped with a crispy rustic crust.
Ingredients
- ●1 cup French lentils rinsed and drained
- ●4 cups Waterfor cooking lentils
- ●4 tablespoons Butterunsalted
- ●2 tablespoons Olive oil
- ●1 cup Rustic breadcubed and toasted
- ●1 cup Grated cheeseGruyère or Emmental
- ●1 teaspoon Salt
- ●1/2 teaspoon Black pepper

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. In a large saucepan, combine the lentils and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the lentils are tender.

3. In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the olive oil and cook for 1 minute.

4. Add the cubed bread to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until toasted and lightly browned.

5. Stir in the grated cheese and cook until melted and well combined.

6. In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, arrange a layer of the cooked lentils.

7. Top the lentils with a layer of the bread and cheese mixture.

8. Repeat the layers two more times, ending with a layer of bread and cheese on top.

9. Dot the top of the gratin with the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter.

10. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the gratin is heated through.
