Som Tam (Papaya Salad) - Thai-Style
A spicy and sour salad made with shredded green papaya, tomatoes, chilies, and peanuts. This authentic Thai recipe is a staple in Thai cuisine.
Ingredients
- β1 medium, peeled and shredded Green Papaya
- β2 medium, diced Tomatoes
- β3-4, sliced Chilies
- β1/2 cup, chopped Peanuts
- β2 tbsp Fermented Fish Sauce (Pla Ra)
- β2 tbsp Vinegar
- β1 tsp Sugar
- β1 tsp, grated Som (Palm Sugar)

1. In a large mortar and pestle, pound the chilies and garlic until well combined.

2. Add the peanuts and pound until crushed.

3. Add the shredded papaya and pound until slightly softened.

4. Add the diced tomatoes and pound until well combined.

5. Add the fermented fish sauce, vinegar, sugar, and som. Stir well.

6. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.
