Egyptian Lentil Dal
A hearty and flavorful North African-inspired lentil curry made with red lentils, onions, garlic, and spices.
Ingredients
- β1 cup red lentils
- β1 medium onion
- β3 cloves garlic
- β1 cup split peas
- β2 tsp egyptian spices
- β1/4 cup quenched
- β2 cups dal
- β4 cups water
- βto taste salt
- βto taste black pepper
Instructions

Rinse the red lentils and split peas, and soak them in water for 30 minutes.

Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the garlic, egyptian spices, and quenched. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Add the dal and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.

Add the soaked red lentils and split peas, along with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 20-25 minutes, or until the lentils are tender.

Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Serve hot, garnished with chopped fresh herbs, if desired.
