Tagine Beef Stew
A hearty, slow-cooked stew made with tender beef and flavorful spices, inspired by North African cuisine.
Ingredients
- β2 pounds 2 pounds beef stew meatcut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
- β1 large 1 large onion, chopped
- β2 cloves 2 cloves garlic, minced
- β1 cup 1 cup beef broth
- β1 tablespoon 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- β1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- β1/2 teaspoon 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- β1/2 teaspoon 1/2 teaspoon salt
- β1/4 teaspoon 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- β2 tablespoons 2 tablespoons olive oil

Heat the oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Brown the beef on all sides, then remove it from the pot and set it aside.

Add the onion to the pot and cook until it's softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the garlic, cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper to the pot and cook for 1 minute.

Add the beef broth to the pot and bring it to a boil.

Return the beef to the pot and cover it with a lid.

Transfer the pot to the oven and cook for 2 1/2 hours, or until the beef is tender.

Remove the pot from the oven and let it cool slightly.

Serve the stew hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
