Char Siu Egg Bao
A classic Cantonese breakfast or snack dish featuring a soft egg and sweet char siu filling in a fluffy bao.
Ingredients
- β4-6 pieces pleasingly soft bao doughstore-bought or homemade
- β1/4 cup garlicky char siu saucehomemade or store-bought
- β2 egglarge eggs
- β1/2 cup char siu fillingstore-bought or homemade
- β1/4 cup scallionschopped
Instructions

Preheat a steamer with a heatproof plate.

Place the bao dough pieces on the plate, cover with a clean cloth.

Steam for 10-12 minutes or until the bao is soft and fluffy.

In a separate pan, heat the char siu sauce over low heat.

Add the char siu filling and stir until heated through.

Crack an egg into a small bowl.

Once the bao is cooked, place a piece on a flat surface.

Create a small well in the center of the bao.

Pour the egg into the well and cook for 2-3 minutes or until the whites are set.

Add a spoonful of the char siu filling on top of the egg.

Garnish with chopped scallions.
