Slovakian Kielbasa Pierogi
A hearty and comforting Slovakian-inspired dish featuring homemade pierogi filled with kielbasa and served in a savory broth.
Ingredients
- β1 pound kielbasa
- βhomemade or 1 package store-bought pierogi doughsee below for homemade dough recipe
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β1 tablespoon slovakian sausage seasoning
- β1 teaspoon caraway seeds
- βto taste black pepper
- β1 cup sour creamoptional
- β1/4 cup chopped fresh parsleyoptional

To make homemade pierogi dough, combine 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup warm water, 1/4 cup milk, 1 egg, and 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a bowl. Knead for 5 minutes and let rest for 30 minutes.

Divide dough into 4 equal pieces and roll out each piece into a thin circle.

Place a tablespoon of kielbasa mixture in the center of each dough circle.

Fold dough over filling and press edges together to seal.

In a large pot, combine 2 cups chicken broth, 1 cup water, and 1 tablespoon Slovakian sausage seasoning.

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

Add pierogi to pot and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface.

Serve hot with sour cream and chopped parsley, if desired.

To make kielbasa mixture, cook 1 pound kielbasa in a skillet over medium-high heat until browned, breaking into small pieces as it cooks.
