Greek Lamb Stifado
A traditional Greek stew made with tender lamb, onions, garlic, and a blend of spices. Serve with crusty bread or over mashed potatoes.
Ingredients
- β1.5 pounds lamb shouldercut into 1-inch cubes
- β1 large onionchopped
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- β1 teaspoon ground cumin
- β1 teaspoon salt
- β1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- β1 cup red wineoptional
- β1 cup beef broth
- β1 teaspoon stifado spice blend
Instructions

Preheat oven to 300Β°F (150Β°C).

Season the lamb cubes with salt, black pepper, and cumin.

Heat a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the lamb and sear until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Reduce heat to medium and add more oil if necessary. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 8 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.

Add the smoked paprika, beef broth, and red wine (if using). Stir to combine.

Add the browned lamb back to the pot and stir to coat with the sauce.

Cover the pot with a lid and transfer to the preheated oven.

Bake for 2-1/2 hours, or until the lamb is tender and falls apart easily.

Remove the pot from the oven and stir in the stifado spice blend.

Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
