Indian-Style Oven Biryani
A flavorful and aromatic Indian-inspired rice dish cooked in the oven with marinated chicken. Perfect for a weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds Boneless, skinless chicken breastsmarinated in yogurt and spices
- β2 cups Basmati riceuncooked
- β1 medium Onionchopped
- β2 inches Gingergrated
- β1/4 cup Cilantrochopped
- β1 teaspoon Garam masalaground
- β1 teaspoon Cuminground
- β1/2 teaspoon Turmericground
- β1/4 teaspoon Red chili powderground
- β1/2 teaspoon Saltground
- β2 tablespoons Vegetable oilfor cooking

Preheat the oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

Marinate the chicken in a mixture of yogurt, garam masala, cumin, turmeric, red chili powder, and salt for at least 30 minutes.

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.

Add the grated ginger and cook for 1 minute.

Add the marinated chicken and cook until browned on both sides, about 5-7 minutes.

In a large bowl, combine the cooked rice, chopped cilantro, and salt. Mix well.

In a 9x13 inch baking dish, create a layer of rice mixture. Top with a layer of chicken, then another layer of rice mixture. Repeat this process until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of rice on top.

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top layer is lightly browned.
