Canadian Stew
A hearty, comforting stew made with tender beef and fresh cabbage. Perfect for a cold winter's night.
Ingredients
- β500g beef stew meatcut into 2-inch cubes
- β250g cabbageshredded
- β250g carrotspeeled and sliced
- β250g potatoespeeled and cubed
- β125g onionchopped
- β5 cloves garlicminced
- β2L beef brothhomemade or store-bought
- β30g all-purpose flourfor thickening
- β5g saltto taste
- β2g black pepperto taste
Instructions

In a large Dutch oven, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat.

Add the beef cubes and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.

Remove the beef from the pot and set aside.

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot and cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

Add the shredded cabbage and cook for an additional 2 minutes.

Add the beef broth, potatoes, carrots, salt, and pepper to the pot.

Return the beef to the pot and bring the stew to a boil.

Reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 1 1/2 hours, or until the beef is tender.

Stir in the flour to thicken the stew.

Serve hot, garnished with chopped fresh herbs, if desired.
