Vietnamese Fish with Spicy Kho Sauce
A flavorful Vietnamese dish featuring fish cooked in a spicy kho sauce, served with a side of steamed vegetables.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Fish (any firm white fish)Such as snapper or tilapia
- β2 tablespoons Vegetable oilFor frying
- β1 medium OnionDiced
- β1/4 cup Mildly Spicy Kho SauceAvailable at most Asian markets
- β2 tablespoons CaAvailable at most Asian markets
- β2 tablespoons KhoAvailable at most Asian markets
- β1 tablespoon GingerGrated
- β1 tablespoon SugarTo balance the heat
- β1 tablespoon Fish sauceOptional, for added flavor

1. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

2. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

3. Add the fish and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until cooked through.

4. Remove the fish from the skillet and set aside.

5. In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.

6. Add the grated ginger and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.

7. Add the mildly spicy kho sauce, ca, kho, sugar, and fish sauce (if using).

8. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.

9. Return the fish to the skillet and spoon some of the kho sauce over the top.

10. Serve the fish hot, garnished with chopped green onions and steamed vegetables on the side.
