Japanese Coq Au Vin with Low Carb Apples
A twist on the classic French dish, adapted with Asian flavors and low-carb ingredients. This recipe combines the richness of coq au vin with the sweetness of Japanese-style apples.
Ingredients
- β1 whole chicken, cut into 8 pieces coq
- β2 medium, peeled and sliced bramley apples
- βas needed low carb friendly ingredients (e.g. cauliflower mash, zucchini noodles)
- β1 cup red wine vin
- β2 tbsp soy sauce
- β1 tsp sugar
- β1 tsp grated ginger
- β2 cloves minced garlic
- β2 tbsp sesame oil
- β1/4 cup chopped green onions

Season the chicken with salt and pepper.

Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Add the chicken and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.

Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.

Add more sesame oil if needed, then sautΓ© the sliced apples until caramelized, about 5 minutes.

Add the soy sauce, sugar, ginger, and garlic to the skillet and stir to combine.

Return the chicken to the skillet and pour in the red wine.

Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce has thickened, about 10-12 minutes.
