Venezuelan Empanadas
A classic Venezuelan dish, these empanadas are filled with a delicious blend of beef and spices. Serve with a side of salsa or guacamole for a flavorful snack.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Ground beef80/20 lean to fat ratio
- β1/2 cup LightVenezuelan-style cooking oil
- β2 cups FlourAll-purpose flour for empanada dough
- β4-6 shells EmpanadasPre-made empanada shells
- β1 teaspoon SaltTo taste
- β1/2 teaspoon Black pepperTo taste
- β1/2 teaspoon CuminTo taste
- β1 medium OnionChopped
- β2 cloves GarlicMinced

Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

In a large skillet, heat the light over medium-high heat.

Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned, about 5-7 minutes.

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent.

Add the cumin, salt, and black pepper to the skillet and stir to combine.

Roll out the empanada dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.

Place a tablespoon or two of the beef mixture onto one half of the dough, leaving a 1/2 inch border around the edges.

Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and press the edges together with a fork to seal.

Place the empanada on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
