Boiled Algerian Chicken
A hearty and flavorful Algerian chicken dish made with tender boiled chicken, served with a side of steamed vegetables and a light salad.
Ingredients
- β1 whole chicken legbone-in
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β2 tablespoons olive oilfor cooking
- βto taste salt
- βto taste pepper
- β1 teaspoon algerian spice blendavailable at most middle eastern markets
- β2 tablespoons lemon juicefreshly squeezed
Instructions

Fill a large bowl with cold water and add 1 tablespoon of salt. Submerge the chicken leg and let it soak for 30 minutes.

Preheat a large pot of water over high heat and bring it to a boil.

Remove the chicken from the brine and place it in the boiling water.

Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.

Remove the chicken from the water and place it on a plate to rest.

In a large bowl, combine the chopped onion, minced garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper, and Algerian spice blend.

Stir to combine and let it sit for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Add the lemon juice to the bowl and stir to combine.
