Turkish-Style Lamb Kunefe
A traditional Turkish dessert featuring crispy kunefe pastry, melted cheese, and juicy lamb. Perfect for a special occasion or dinner party.
Ingredients
- β1 package (about 1 pound) Kunefe Pastryavailable at Middle Eastern markets
- β1 pound boneless shoulder or neck, cut into 1-inch cubes Juicy Lamboptional, can omit for a cheese-only version
- β1 cup shredded Akawi Cheeseor other white cheese, available at Middle Eastern markets
- β1/4 cup Melted Butterfor brushing kunefe pastry
- β1 tablespoon Honeyoptional, for serving
- βa few drops Rose Wateroptional, for flavoring

Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

Cut the kunefe pastry into 1-inch squares. You should have about 20-25 squares.

Place half of the kunefe squares in a single layer in a 9x13-inch baking dish.

If using lamb, place the cubes on top of the kunefe pastry.

Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the lamb (if using) or kunefe pastry.

Brush the melted butter over the cheese.

Place the remaining kunefe squares on top of the cheese.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the kunefe pastry is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
