Keto Chinese BBQ Pork Bao
A keto version of the classic Chinese BBQ pork bao. This recipe is low in carbs and high in fat.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Pork bellyMake sure to get a piece with a good balance of meat and fat.
- β2 tablespoons Chinese five-spiceThis spice blend is a key component of Chinese BBQ sauce.
- β1/4 cup Siu bao sauceYou can make your own or use store-bought.
- β2 tablespoons Char siuThis is a type of Chinese BBQ sauce. You can use either store-bought or homemade.
- β1/4 cup Green onionsFor garnish.
- β1/2 cup Almond flourTo make the keto bao dough.
- β2 EggsTo bind the dough together.
- β2 tablespoons Coconut oilTo cook the pork and the bao.

Preheat oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C).

In a small bowl, mix together the Chinese five-spice and siu bao sauce.

Rub the spice mixture all over the pork belly, making sure to coat it evenly.

Place the pork belly in a baking dish and roast for 20 minutes.

While the pork is cooking, make the keto bao dough by mixing together the almond flour, eggs, and coconut oil.

Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Divide the dough into 4-6 equal pieces, depending on how large you want your bao to be.

Roll out each piece of dough into a thin circle.

Place a piece of the pork belly in the center of each dough circle.

Fold the dough over the pork to form a half-moon shape and press the edges together to seal the bao.

Place the bao on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Brush the tops of the bao with char siu and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown.
