Smoked Mackerel Onigiri
A Japanese-inspired snack using smoked mackerel, typically served as a light meal or appetizer.
Ingredients
- β1 (6 oz) can Smoked Mackereldrained and flaked
- β2 cups Japanese Riceshort-grain rice
- β2 tbsp Sesame Seedstoasted
- β1 tsp Sesame Oilto taste
- β1 tsp Soy Sauceto taste
- β1 tsp Sushi Vinegarto taste
- β1/4 cup Grated Daikon Radishoptional

Rinse the Japanese rice thoroughly and cook according to package instructions.

Prepare the filling by mixing the flaked mackerel with sesame oil, soy sauce, and sushi vinegar.

Once the rice has cooled, shape it into triangles or ovals, about 1 1/2 inches in size.

Place a small spoonful of the mackerel filling in the center of each rice shape, leaving a small border around the edges.

Gently fold the rice over the filling to form a triangle or oval shape, applying gentle pressure to form a compact triangle.

Repeat with the remaining rice and filling.

Just before serving, garnish each onigiri with toasted sesame seeds and a sprinkle of grated daikon radish, if using.
