Slovakian Braised Chicken
A hearty and flavorful Slovakian-inspired dish featuring tender braised chicken in a rich sauce. Serve with your choice of egg noodles or potatoes for a filling meal.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds chicken thighs
- β1 medium onion
- β3 cloves garlic
- β1 teaspoon caraway seeds
- β1 teaspoon paprika
- β1/2 teaspoon salt
- β1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- β2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- β2 tablespoons butter
- β1 cup beer
Instructions
- 1
Season the chicken with caraway seeds, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- 2
Heat the butter in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken until browned, about 5 minutes per side.
- 3
Remove the chicken from the pot and set it aside.
- 4
Reduce the heat to medium and add the onion to the pot. Cook until the onion is softened, about 5 minutes.
- 5
Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- 6
Sprinkle the flour over the onion mixture and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- 7
Gradually add the beer to the pot, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
- 8
Return the chicken to the pot and bring the sauce to a simmer.
- 9
Cover the pot and transfer it to the oven. Braise the chicken for 25-30 minutes, or until it is tender and falls apart easily.
- 10
Remove the pot from the oven and let it cool slightly.
- 11
Serve the chicken with the sauce spooned over the top.
