Hazelnut Mochi with Portuguese Custard
A unique dessert that combines the flavors of Japan with the sweetness of Portugal.
Ingredients
- ●2 cups Mochi rice flour
- ●1/2 cup, chopped Hazelnuts
- ●1/2 cup Granulated sugar
- ●1 cup Portuguese custard (Crème de Leite)
- ●2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
- ●1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- ●1 cup Water

1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mochi rice flour and granulated sugar.

2. Gradually add in the chopped hazelnuts and mix until well combined.

3. In a separate saucepan, heat the Portuguese custard over low heat.

4. Add in the unsalted butter and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.

5. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the custard has thickened.

6. In a separate saucepan, bring the water to a boil.

7. Gradually add in the mochi rice flour mixture, and mix until a dough forms.

8. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.

9. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces, and shape each piece into a ball.

10. Flatten each ball of dough into a disk shape, and place a tablespoon of the Portuguese custard in the center of each disk.

11. Fold the dough over the filling to form a triangle, and press the edges together to seal the mochi.

12. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling, and serve warm.
