Smoky Beef Stew
A hearty and flavorful stew dish with smoky beef and argentinian spices, inspired by Japanese cuisine.
Ingredients
- β1 pound beef brisketcut into 2-inch cubes
- β2 tablespoons shoyuJapanese soy sauce
- β2 tablespoons mirinsweet Japanese cooking wine
- β1 cup sakeJapanese rice wine
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β2 cups dashiJapanese broth
- β2 tablespoons sugaroptional

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Sear beef cubes until browned, about 5 minutes.

Remove beef and set aside.

Add onion and garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.

Add shoyu, mirin, and sake to the pot, stirring to combine.

Return beef to the pot and add dashi.

Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, for 2 hours.

Add sugar, if using, and continue to simmer for another 30 minutes.
