Hearty Dutch Casserole
A comforting, layered casserole with a crispy topping.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Hearty Beef Sausagecasings removed
- β2 medium Casserole Potatoespeeled and thinly sliced
- β2 large Roasted Carrotspeeled and sliced
- β1 head Lettuceshredded
- β1 cup Heavy Creamor half-and-half
- β1 cup Cheddar Cheeseshredded
- β2 tablespoons All-purpose Flour
- β2 tablespoons Butter

Preheat the oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

Cook the sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks, until browned and cooked through.

Transfer the cooked sausage to a large bowl and add the sliced potatoes, carrots, and shredded lettuce.

In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

Add the flour and whisk together to make a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes.

Slowly pour in the heavy cream, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.

Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until it thickens, about 2-3 minutes.

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

Add the cooked sausage mixture to the cheese sauce and stir to combine.
