Peka Croatian Braised Beef
A traditional Croatian dish, Peka is a hearty beef stew slow-cooked in a bell-shaped pot. The rich flavors and tender meat make it a perfect meal for a cold day.
Ingredients
- β2 pounds Beef Shankcut into 2-inch pieces
- β1 large Onionchopped
- β3 cloves Garlicminced
- β2 tablespoons Paprika
- β1 teaspoon Salt
- β1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
- β1 cup Red Wine
- β2 cups Beef Broth
- β4 Carrotspeeled and chopped
- β2 Potatoespeeled and chopped

Preheat the oven to 300Β°F (150Β°C).

Season the beef with salt, black pepper, and paprika.

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Sear the beef until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.

Remove the beef from the pot and set aside.

Add the chopped onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Add the red wine to the pot, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.

Add the beef broth, carrots, and potatoes to the pot. Stir to combine.

Return the beef to the pot, cover, and transfer to the preheated oven.
