Middle Eastern Shakshuka
A flavorful and spicy North African-inspired egg dish made with a rich tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- β2 cloves garlicky
- β4 eggs middle eastern egg
- β1 can shakshuka
- β1 tsp quick eastern spices
- β2 tbsp tomato paste
- β2 tbsp olive oil
- β1 medium red onion
- β1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- β1/4 tsp salt
- β1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions

Heat olive oil in a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.

Add diced red onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add tomato paste and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute.

Add canned shakshuka, garlicky, quick eastern spices, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

Create 4 wells in the tomato mixture and crack an egg into each well.

Transfer skillet to preheated oven and bake at 400Β°F (200Β°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until eggs are set.

Remove skillet from oven and let cool slightly.

Serve eggs in tomato sauce hot, garnished with parsley or cilantro if desired.
