Lamb Stew with Ethiopian Twist
A hearty, keto-friendly stew with a bold Ethiopian flavor profile. Smoky spices add depth to the rich lamb and gamey undertones.
Ingredients
- β1.5 lbs Lamb shoulderCut into 1-inch cubes
- β2 tbsp Smoked paprikaFor smoky flavor
- β2 inches GingerGrate before adding
- β1 large OnionChop before adding
- β3 cloves GarlicMinced
- β1 tsp Ethiopian berbere spiceAdjust to taste
- β1 tsp SaltAdjust to taste
- β1 tsp Black pepperAdjust to taste
- β2 cups Gamey lamb brothHomemade or store-bought

Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Brown the lamb cubes on all sides, about 5 minutes. Remove from pot and set aside.

Add the onion and ginger to the pot and cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

Add the garlic, smoked paprika, berbere spice, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1 minute.

Add the lamb broth to the pot and bring to a simmer.

Return the lamb to the pot and cover. Transfer to the oven and braise for 2.5 hours, or until the lamb is tender.

Remove the pot from the oven and let it cool slightly.

Serve the stew hot, garnished with chopped fresh herbs if desired.
