Russian Beef and Rice Pilaf
A hearty, comforting pilaf dish originating from Russia, made with tender beef and flavorful spices.
Ingredients
- β1 pound beef (pilaf-cut)
- β1 1/2 cups long-grain rice
- β2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- β1 medium onion
- β2 cloves garlic
- β1 teaspoon dried thyme
- βto taste salt
- βto taste black pepper

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.

Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

Add the rice to the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.

Add the thyme, salt, and pepper to the skillet and stir to combine.

Add the beef back into the skillet and stir to combine with the rice mixture.

Transfer the mixture to a medium saucepan and add 2 cups of boiling water.

Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender.
