Classic Spaghetti Bolognese
A traditional Italian dish made with ground beef, tomato sauce, and pasta. The rich flavors of this bolognese sauce are sure to satisfy any pasta lover.
Ingredients
- β500g ground beef80% lean
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β1 medium carrotchopped
- β2 stalks celerychopped
- β400g canned crushed tomatoespreferably San Marzano
- β120ml red wineoptional
- β30g tomato pasteoptional
- β60ml olive oilfor cooking
- βto taste salt
- βto taste black pepper
- β20g fresh basilchopped, for garnish
Instructions

Cook the spaghetti in boiling, salted water until al dente.

Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, chopped carrot, and chopped celery to the saucepan.

Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened and lightly browned.

Add the ground beef to the saucepan, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.

Once the beef is browned, add the canned crushed tomatoes, red wine (if using), and tomato paste (if using).

Stir to combine, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Season the sauce with salt and black pepper to taste.

Serve the bolognese sauce over cooked spaghetti, topped with chopped fresh basil.
