French Canadian Tourtière Pie
A traditional French-Canadian meat pie filled with ground pork and beef.
Ingredients
- ●1 package (1 crust) flaky pastryhomemade or store-bought
- ●1 pound ground pork80/20 or 70/30 lean to fat ratio works well
- ●1/2 pound ground beef80/20 or 70/30 lean to fat ratio works well
- ●1 medium onionchopped
- ●1 teaspoon allspiceground
- ●1/2 teaspoon saltto taste
- ●1/2 teaspoon black pepperto taste
- ●6 slices Canadian bacondiced

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Roll out the pastry and place into a 9-inch pie dish.

3. In a large skillet, cook the ground pork and beef until browned, breaking it up into small pieces.

4. Add the onion, allspice, salt, and pepper to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent.

5. Stir in the Canadian bacon and cook for 1 minute.

6. Pour the meat mixture into the pastry-lined pie dish.

7. Roll out the remaining pastry and use to cover the pie. Crimp the edges to seal.

8. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.

9. Brush the top crust with a little water or beaten egg.

10. Bake the pie for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
