Japanese Braised Pork Belly
A rich and flavorful Japanese-inspired dish featuring tender braised pork belly in a savory fermented soy sauce-based sauce.
Ingredients
- β1.5 lbs Pork Belly
- β1/2 cup Fermented Soy Saucesuch as Japanese miso
- β1/4 cup Soy Sauce
- β2 tbsp Brown Sugar
- β3 cloves Garlicminced
- β2 inches Gingersliced
- β1 tsp Chinese Five-Spice Powder
- β2 tbsp Sesame Oil
- β1/4 cup Green Onionschopped

Preheat oven to 300Β°F (150Β°C).

Season the pork belly with Chinese five-spice powder.

In a large Dutch oven, heat sesame oil over medium-high heat. Sear the pork belly until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.

Remove the pork from the pot and set it aside.

Add garlic and ginger to the pot and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Add fermented soy sauce, soy sauce, and brown sugar to the pot and stir to combine.

Return the pork belly to the pot and bring the sauce to a boil.

Transfer the pot to the preheated oven and braise the pork for 2 1/2 hours, or until tender.

Remove the pot from the oven and let it cool slightly.

Slice the pork belly into thick slices and place it on a serving platter.
